Description

Aonidiella eremocitri is a harmful scale insect belonging to the family Diaspididae. It is a significant threat to citrus orchards globally, known for its ability to infest foliage, branches, and fruits of various citrus species, including oranges, lemons, and grapefruits.

The pest causes damage by inserting its stylets into the plant tissue to extract cell sap. Continuous feeding results in chlorosis, leaf drop, and stunted growth of the entire tree. Furthermore, the presence of these insects on the fruit rind severely degrades the aesthetic quality of the harvest, causing significant economic losses for growers.

The biology of Aonidiella eremocitri involves distinct developmental stages. The adult female remains protected under a circular, brownish scale cover.
