Athesapeuta is a genus of beetles belonging to the family Curculionidae, order Coleoptera. These small weevils are specialized phytophagous insects that have adapted to thrive on specific aquatic and semi-aquatic plants, positioning them as significant agricultural pests in regions where rice cultivation is prevalent.

The primary crop affected by this pest is rice (Oryza sativa). Athesapeuta exhibits strict host specificity, typically attacking the plant during its most active growth phases. Beyond cultivated rice varieties, the pest can also be found on various aquatic and semi-aquatic weeds, which act as alternative hosts and reservoirs for the population between cropping seasons.
