In agricultural and horticultural settings, particularly within aquaculture or hydroponic systems, this species acts as a pest capable of causing significant damage to various aquatic and semi-aquatic plant species.

These snails primarily infest water gardens, aquaculture ponds, and hydroponic nutrient solution reservoirs. They feed on a wide range of aquatic flora, showing a preference for young, tender leaves and stems. Their presence can severely compromise the aesthetic value of ornamental water plants and reduce the harvest yield in edible aquatic plant production.

The biology of Bulinus tropicus is characterized by rapid reproduction and high environmental adaptability. As hermaphrodites, they can establish new colonies from a very small number of individuals. Their egg masses are typically attached to the undersides of leaves, making them difficult to detect manually before the population reaches an uncontrollable level.

The damage caused is manifested through extensive grazing on plant tissues, leading to skeletonized leaves and weakened structural integrity of the stems. Large populations also produce substantial organic waste, which alters the water chemistry, promotes the proliferation of harmful algae, and facilitates the development of bacterial pathogens that may attack the plant roots.

Effective management requires a multi-faceted approach. Preventive measures include thorough inspection of new plant stock before introduction to the system and the installation of fine mesh screens on water intakes. Control strategies also involve:
