Description
Calosirus is a genus of weevils (family Curculionidae) known for their role as specialized pests of plants in the Brassicaceae family. These small beetles are widely distributed and can cause economic damage to both vegetable crops and oilseed rape. Their cryptic lifestyle, particularly the larval stage inside plant tissues, poses challenges for identification and effective control.
The primary host plants susceptible to Calosirus include cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, rapeseed, mustard, and radish. The pest targets different parts of these plants throughout their developmental stages, with the highest impact often observed during the early growth phase of the seedlings when the plants are most vulnerable to feeding damage.
