Description

Chalcodermus marshalli is a significant insect pest belonging to the Curculionidae family. As a specialized weevil, it represents a substantial threat to agricultural productivity in tropical and subtropical regions where legumes form the basis of the cropping system.

This pest primarily attacks various legume species, with a particular preference for common beans and cowpeas. The insects utilize their rostrum to pierce both the vegetative tissues of the plant and the developing pods, facilitating their feeding and egg-laying processes which compromise the health of the host plant.
