Host plants: The pest is known primarily for its impact on palm seeds. It frequently infests the seeds of coconut palms, date palms, and areca palms. It is a common problem in greenhouses and botanical gardens where imported palm seeds are stored or cultivated for propagation.

Biology and life cycle: The entire life cycle occurs inside the host seed. The female bores into the fruit to lay eggs, and the larvae feed on the endosperm, creating complex galleries. Due to the protected environment inside the seed, the pest can thrive in indoor conditions with stable temperatures, often completing multiple generations per year.

Damage patterns and pest status: The primary economic damage is the loss of seed viability caused by the destruction of the embryo. Since the feeding occurs internally, infested seeds often look intact from the outside until the adult beetles emerge, leaving characteristic circular exit holes on the seed coat.
