Cochliotis (notably Cochliotis melanocephalus) is a genus of weevils belonging to the Curculionidae family within the order Coleoptera. This insect is recognized as a significant agricultural pest that specifically targets sugar beet and related crops, often causing severe damage in infested regions where climatic conditions favor its development.

The primary hosts for Cochliotis are commercial sugar beet plantations. The damage is often patchy, reflecting the localized nature of the pest's dispersal and oviposition patterns. Monitoring is essential during the early developmental stages of the crop to prevent significant stand density reduction and overall yield loss.

The biological development of this pest is highly dependent on soil temperature and moisture levels. Adult weevils emerge from overwintering sites in the soil during spring and begin feeding on the foliage. Females subsequently lay eggs in the soil near the host plant, and the emerging larvae migrate to the root zone to continue their development.
