Systematic position: Conorhynchus luigionii (Solari, 1905) is a member of the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. It is recognized as a significant agricultural pest that primarily targets crops within the Amaranthaceae family.
Target crops and damage: The primary host plants for this species are sugar beet, red beet, and fodder beet. Adult weevils feed on the foliage, notching the edges of leaves and causing damage to young seedlings. The larvae, which reside underground, pose a more severe threat as they feed on the taproot, often severing it and leading to the collapse or stunted growth of the plant.
Biology and life cycle: The insect undergoes complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adults overwinter in the soil at considerable depths.
