Systematic position: The Crested curculio (Conotrachelus cristatus) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. As a member of the genus Conotrachelus, it is recognized as a significant agricultural pest that exhibits specialized feeding habits, often causing severe economic losses in orchards and native woody plant stands.

Host plants: This pest primarily targets woody perennials, particularly those within the Rosaceae family. Its hosts often include various fruit-bearing trees where the beetle finds optimal conditions for oviposition and larval development. In infested areas, it can be a persistent threat to both commercial fruit production and ornamental landscape trees.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Conotrachelus cristatus involves four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The adults are typically cryptic, often nocturnal, which makes them difficult to monitor. Females puncture the surface of fruits or shoots to deposit eggs. The larvae emerge and tunnel into the plant tissue, completing their development protected from external environmental factors.

Damage and severity: The primary injury is caused by larval feeding, which leads to fruit drop, tunnel formation within the pulp, and structural damage to young branches. These wounds serve as entry points for secondary fungal and bacterial infections, significantly reducing fruit yield and quality, often rendering the crop unmarketable if left unmanaged.

Control measures: Managing populations of the Crested curculio requires an integrated pest management (IPM) strategy:
