Description
The guava weevil (Conotrachelus psidii) is a significant insect pest belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. It is considered one of the primary limiting factors for successful guava (Psidium guajava) cultivation in tropical and subtropical climates.
The host range is primarily focused on guava species. Adult weevils are highly specialized feeders, and their reproductive strategy is intimately linked to the phenology of the guava fruit, which provides both food and a protected environment for the developing larvae.
The lifecycle begins when the female weevil punctures the surface of the fruit to oviposit. The emerging larvae tunnel into the pulp and seeds, consuming the internal tissues.
