Scientifically classified under the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae, these beetles act as significant pests in forest environments and orchards. Their ability to colonize and damage woody tissues makes them a subject of concern for foresters and agricultural experts globally.

These pests primarily target deciduous and tropical woody plants. The beetle is particularly attracted to trees that are already stressed by environmental factors like drought, poor soil conditions, or physical damage. Once a host is selected, the beetle population can proliferate rapidly within the wood tissues.

The biology of Coptoborus involves creating intricate gallery systems beneath the bark or deep within the sapwood. Females initiate these tunnels to lay their eggs.
