Corthylocurus is a genus of beetles belonging to the subfamily Scolytinae within the Curculionidae family. Known as a type of ambrosia beetle, these insects are specialized in their behavior, primarily boring into the xylem of trees to cultivate specific symbiotic fungi.
The host range of Corthylocurus includes various forest tree species and occasionally orchard trees. They are particularly attracted to stressed, decaying, or mechanically damaged trees, although high-density populations can sometimes overwhelm even healthy specimens, leading to rapid decline and potential mortality of the host plant.
The biology of this pest is centered around its symbiotic relationship with fungi. Adult beetles tunnel into the woody tissue, where they introduce fungal spores.
