Description

Crossotarsus simplex is a species of bark and ambrosia beetle belonging to the family Curculionidae, subfamily Scolytinae. These insects are classified as wood-boring pests that primarily attack compromised or stressed trees, often remaining undetected due to their deep penetration into the heartwood.

The host range of this pest typically includes a variety of deciduous and coniferous tree species. Infestations are most prevalent in timber yards or forest areas where trees have been weakened by environmental factors, previous diseases, or poor forest management practices, making them susceptible to colonization.

The biology of this species is characterized by a symbiotic relationship with ambrosia fungi. Upon entering the wood, the beetles cultivate these fungi within their galleries.
