Cyclocephala pasadenae is a beetle species belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Scarabaeidae. These insects are well-known in agricultural and landscaping sectors due to the destructive behavior of their larvae, which inhabit the soil profile and feed on the subterranean parts of vegetation.

The primary hosts for this pest include turfgrasses, ornamental landscapes, and various nursery crops. The larvae, commonly referred to as white grubs, reside in the root zone, where they consume root tissue, thereby compromising the plant's ability to uptake water and essential nutrients effectively.

The life cycle of this insect involves complete metamorphosis, consisting of the egg, three larval instars, pupa, and adult beetle stages. While adults generally emerge during the night to mate and lay eggs, the larval stage remains the most damaging phase. These larvae thrive in moist, nutrient-rich soils, making well-maintained turf and nursery environments ideal for their population growth.

Damage to plants is often first noticed as patches of wilting or chlorotic turf that eventually turn brown and die. Because the grubs prune the roots near the soil surface, the infested sod can often be rolled back like a carpet. Extensive feeding damage leads to thin stands of grass, increased weed pressure, and severe aesthetic decline in public and private green spaces.
