Cyclorhipidion pelliculosum is a species of ambrosia beetle belonging to the Curculionidae family, subfamily Scolytinae. Unlike typical bark beetles that feed directly on phloem, these beetles are fungus farmers, cultivating specific fungi within the wood of their host trees to provide a nutritious food source for their larvae and adults.

The host range of this pest primarily includes broad-leaved trees. In agricultural settings, it frequently targets fruit trees such as apple and plum, especially those that are stressed due to drought, poor maintenance, or mechanical damage. In forest ecosystems, it commonly infests a variety of deciduous species, making it a significant concern for silviculture and nursery management.

The biology of Cyclorhipidion pelliculosum is intrinsically linked to its symbiotic fungi. Adult females bore galleries into the xylem of the tree, where they introduce fungal spores. As the galleries expand, the fungi proliferate on the walls, serving as the main diet for developing larvae. This dependency makes the beetles particularly sensitive to the internal moisture levels of the wood they inhabit.

Damage caused by this beetle manifests as small, circular entry holes on the tree bark. The primary impact is the disruption of the tree's vascular system, as the extensive gallery network restricts the flow of sap. Over time, heavy infestations lead to branch dieback, crown thinning, and, in severe cases, the complete death of the host tree as the structural integrity of the wood is compromised.

Key strategies include the removal and destruction of infested branches or trees to reduce the local beetle population.
