The Eastern larch beetle (Dendroctonus simplex) is a significant forest pest that primarily attacks larch tree species. Taxonomically, it belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae, subfamily Scolytinae. As a specialized bark beetle, it plays a critical role in the natural dynamics of northern coniferous forests, often acting as a primary agent of tree mortality during outbreak periods.
