Description
Dendroctonus vitei is a species of bark beetle belonging to the Curculionidae family, subfamily Scolytinae. This insect is recognized as a significant threat to coniferous forests, particularly pines, playing a critical role in forest health dynamics through its feeding and reproductive activities under the bark.
The primary hosts of this beetle are various species of pine trees. While the pest often targets weakened, stressed, or storm-damaged trees, high population densities allow it to attack healthy trees as well.
