Dicerca berolinensis, commonly known as a type of metallic wood-boring beetle, is a member of the Buprestidae family. These insects are significant forest pests whose larvae act as wood-borers, specifically targeting the trunks and larger branches of various deciduous trees.
The primary host range includes birch trees, though these beetles are also documented infesting beech, hornbeam, alder, and willow. They typically favor stressed or weakened trees, which makes them particularly dangerous in forests already suffering from drought, pollution, or mechanical damage.
The biological cycle of this species is prolonged, often lasting two to three years. Adult beetles emerge during the summer months to feed on leaves before mating. Females deposit eggs into bark fissures. Once hatched, the larvae bore into the inner bark and sapwood, constructing complex galleries that disrupt the tree's vascular system.
