Dieuches notatus is a ground-dwelling true bug species belonging to the family Rhyparochromidae, order Hemiptera. These insects are primarily ground-inhabiting, often found in soil debris, leaf litter, and under stones, which makes them subtle yet persistent threats to agricultural fields and garden plots.

The pest poses a significant risk to various crops, particularly during the germination and seedling emergence stages. By feeding on seeds and young plant tissues, these bugs introduce salivary enzymes that cause necrotic lesions and weaken the plant structure, leading to reduced germination rates and stunted early growth.

The life cycle of Dieuches notatus includes the egg, five nymphal stages, and the adult stage. The species typically overwinters as an adult in the soil or organic debris. As temperatures rise in spring, adults emerge to feed and begin the reproductive cycle, laying eggs in the soil or near host plants.

Economic damage is characterized by uneven plant stands and the death of young seedlings. In cases of high population density, the bugs may target the developing reproductive parts of the plants, which negatively impacts final yields. Their feeding habit makes them difficult to control once the plants have emerged.
