Dimorphopterus is a genus of insects belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Rhyparochromidae. These bugs are known as specialized phytophagous pests that predominantly feed on members of the Poaceae family, posing a persistent threat to cereal production in various geographic regions, particularly in temperate and arid zones.

The primary hosts of this pest include wheat, barley, rye, and various millet species. In addition to cultivated crops, Dimorphopterus species frequently inhabit wild grasses in field margins, which serve as crucial reservoirs for the population, facilitating their survival and dispersal into adjacent agricultural fields during the growing season.

The life cycle of the bug is adapted to the seasonality of cereal crops. Typically, they overwinter as adults or nymphs in protective microhabitats such as plant debris, leaf litter, or the upper soil layers. Once spring temperatures rise, the adults emerge and migrate to young cereal plants to feed on sap and initiate the reproductive cycle for the new generation.

The damage caused by Dimorphopterus is characterized by the depletion of plant tissues. By piercing the plant cells with their stylets, they inject enzymes that disrupt fluid transport and metabolic activity. This feeding leads to chlorosis, stunted growth, premature wilting, and in severe infestations, a failure to produce grain, which directly reduces overall harvest yields.

Management strategies must be integrated to be effective against this resilient pest. Recommended agronomic practices include:
