These insects are known for their highly specialized behavior, excavating complex tunnel systems within the xylem of host trees, which allows them to thrive in wood while remaining protected from many natural predators.

The host range of this pest primarily includes various broad-leaved tree species. While they often colonize stressed, injured, or fallen trees, high-density infestations can affect seemingly healthy timber, leading to significant economic losses in forest management and the degradation of structural wood quality.
