Taxonomic position: Dolurgus is a genus of beetles belonging to the family Curculionidae, specifically within the subfamily Scolytinae (bark beetles). These insects are recognized as specialized pests that primarily target various conifer species, occupying a significant niche in forest entomology due to their potential to reach high population densities.

Host plants and pest status: The primary hosts include spruce trees, though they may occasionally infest other conifers. They are typically attracted to stressed trees, windfalls, or fresh logging residues. Under certain environmental conditions, such as droughts or localized forest disturbances, Dolurgus can transition to healthy trees, causing substantial damage.

Biology and lifecycle: The lifecycle of Dolurgus is intimately tied to the bark and phloem of the host tree. Adult beetles bore into the bark to create galleries for egg-laying.
