Systematic position and description. Elimaea punctifera is a member of the order Orthoptera and the family Tettigoniidae (bush crickets). This insect is characterized by a slender, green-colored body that provides excellent camouflage within green foliage. The species is distinct due to the presence of minute dark spots on its tegmina, which are characteristic of this specific insect.

Affected crops. This species acts as a generalist feeder (polyphage) and poses a threat to a variety of agricultural and horticultural crops. Major host plants include citrus trees, various vegetables, vineyards, and ornamental plants found in nurseries, where the insect can cause substantial cosmetic and physiological damage.

Biology and life cycle. Elimaea punctifera undergoes an incomplete metamorphosis. Females utilize a specialized ovipositor to insert eggs into the tissues of plant leaves or stems. Nymphs, which resemble wingless miniature versions of the adults, hatch from these eggs and undergo a series of molts before reaching maturity.

Damage and severity. Equipped with mandibulate mouthparts, these insects chew on leaf margins and perforate leaf blades. In cases of significant infestation, the insect can cause extensive defoliation, which severely stresses the plant, limits photosynthetic capacity, and reduces the market quality of the nursery stock or fruit yields.

Control measures. Integrated pest management (IPM) is essential for controlling this pest. Strategies include:

• Regular monitoring of crop fields for early detection of nymphs.
• Application of targeted insecticides during the early nymphal stages.
• Cultural practices such as weed management to reduce alternative host sites.
