The beetle primarily damages agricultural and horticultural crops by feeding on the fruits of various trees. Preferred hosts include peaches, apples, pears, and occasionally corn ears. Unlike many other scarabs, the adults are the main stage of the insect that causes economic damage by boring into soft, ripening fruits to consume the pulp, rendering the produce unmarketable.
