Description
The Tea shot hole borer (Euwallacea perbrevis) is a member of the Curculionidae family and the Scolytinae subfamily. Known as a significant agricultural pest, this beetle is notoriously difficult to manage due to its symbiotic relationship with pathogenic fungi, which it introduces into the vascular system of the host tree.
This beetle is a polyphagous pest, meaning it attacks a wide variety of plant species. Notable hosts include tea plants, rubber trees, various legumes, and tropical fruit trees like avocado and mango. Because it is highly adaptable, it poses a severe threat to both commercial agriculture and native biodiversity in several temperate and tropical regions.
