Description

The genus Exaeretopus belongs to the Coccidae family within the order Hemiptera. These insects are recognized as specialized pests affecting various cereal crops. They are characterized by a sedentary lifestyle in the adult stage, often camouflaging themselves against the stems and leaves of host plants.

These pests primarily target crops such as wheat and barley. By inserting their stylets into plant tissues, they extract sap, which deprives the plant of essential nutrients. This feeding process weakens the plant host and creates entry points for secondary fungal infections or pathogens.

The biological cycle involves a transition from egg to crawler stages. Crawlers are mobile and disperse to suitable feeding sites on the plant.
