As a specialized sap-sucking insect, it is a significant pest that thrives in tropical and subtropical climates, often causing decline in host plants through constant nutrient depletion.

Host plants and damage: The pest primarily targets various decorative trees, shrubs, and specific fruit-bearing species. Damage is caused by both adult females and nymphs as they insert their mouthparts into plant tissues to feed on sap. This activity leads to visible chlorosis, tissue distortion, and stunted growth, often resulting in significant leaf drop and branch dieback in heavily infested specimens.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle of Furcaspis capensis includes the egg, crawler (nymph), and adult stages. Females remain stationary under a protective waxy covering, where they lay their eggs. The crawler stage is the primary dispersal phase; these tiny, mobile nymphs travel across plant surfaces to find suitable feeding sites, where they eventually settle, secrete their own protective armor, and cease movement.
