The cabbage stem weevil (genus Hadroplontus, often referred to as Hadroplontus litura) is a member of the Curculionidae family within the order Coleoptera. It is a recognized pest in agricultural regions where brassicaceous crops are grown, posing a persistent threat to yield stability and quality.
This pest primarily attacks plants belonging to the Brassicaceae family. Key host crops include winter and spring oilseed rape, mustard, and various related vegetables. The pest also thrives on wild cruciferous weeds, which act as primary sources of infestation before moving into commercial agricultural fields.
Regarding its biological cycle, the adult weevil hibernates in soil or plant debris. In the spring, they emerge to feed on plant tissue. The female weevil lays eggs inside the stems or leaf stalks of the host plant.
