French's Heteronyx (scientifically known as Heteronyx frenchi) is a member of the Scarabaeidae family, belonging to the order Coleoptera. This insect is recognized as a significant soil-dwelling pest that poses a serious threat to pastures, turf, and various forage crops, particularly in regions where these beetles thrive.

The primary damage is inflicted by the larval stage, commonly referred to as a white grub. These larvae live beneath the soil surface and feed extensively on the root systems of grasses and other agricultural plants. Because they operate underground, their presence often remains unnoticed until significant damage to the plant root system has already occurred.

The life cycle of the insect typically includes the egg stage, three larval instars, a pupal stage, and the adult beetle. Adult beetles are primarily nocturnal and feed on above-ground foliage, while the larvae are responsible for the destructive subterranean feeding.
