The host range of Hirschmanniella mexicana includes a variety of crops, with particular emphasis on those grown in aquatic or high-moisture environments, such as rice. The nematode is highly adapted to these conditions, and its ability to persist in water-saturated soil makes it a challenging pest to manage in traditional agricultural systems.

The life cycle of this nematode follows the typical development of root-lesion nematodes, consisting of eggs, four larval stages, and adults.
