Description

Systematic position: The Chinese leaf beetle (Holotrichia sinensis) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Scarabaeidae. It is recognized as a significant agricultural pest, particularly in Asian regions, causing substantial economic losses in various cropping systems.

Host crops: This insect is highly polyphagous and feeds on a wide range of plants. Major agricultural hosts include maize (corn), soybeans, peanuts, sweet potatoes, and various cereal crops. It also poses a threat to young nursery stock and perennial trees in forestry.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle typically spans one to two years depending on environmental conditions. Adult females deposit eggs in the soil.
