The pest targets the root system and the root collar of young saplings, causing significant economic losses in nurseries and young forest plantations. By compromising the root integrity, the beetle prevents proper water and nutrient uptake, leading to the rapid decline and death of the trees.

Biology and life cycle. The life cycle involves the female laying eggs within galleries excavated beneath the bark of roots or the root collar. Upon hatching, the larvae feed on the inner bark and phloem, creating tunnels that disrupt the transport of nutrients.
