Idiarthron is a genus of insects belonging to the order Orthoptera and the family Tettigoniidae (katydids). While many members of this family are predatory, species within the Idiarthron genus are primarily phytophagous. They pose a significant threat to various agricultural crops by consuming plant tissues, which can result in substantial yield losses if not properly managed.

These pests primarily target a variety of agricultural and horticultural plants. Affected crops often include cereals, leafy vegetables, and ornamental species. The damage caused by Idiarthron is primarily characterized by aggressive defoliation. Adults and nymphs use their strong mandibles to consume leaves, flower buds, and young shoots. This feeding behavior not only reduces the photosynthetic capacity of the plant but also leaves the crops vulnerable to various pathogens. In cases of high infestation, the damage can lead to total crop failure.
