Leptoxyleborus is a genus of bark beetles within the family Curculionidae and the subfamily Scolytinae. These beetles are widely recognized as wood-boring pests that play a complex role in forest ecosystems. Taxonomically, they are closely related to other ambrosia beetles, which depend on specific fungal associations for survival and larval development.
These pests primarily target a variety of broad-leaved trees, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. They demonstrate a preference for trees that are physically stressed, dying, or recently fallen. However, during outbreaks, they can also attack healthy trees, causing significant damage to the inner bark and sapwood layers.
