Systematic position: The species Liogenys kuntzei belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Scarabaeidae (subfamily Melolonthinae). As a soil-dwelling pest, it is recognized for its significant impact on agricultural productivity in its native range, necessitating systematic monitoring and management strategies by local farmers.

Affected crops: This pest is known to target various essential crops including wheat, barley, maize, and soybeans. Because the larvae remain underground for extended periods, they pose a continuous threat to the root systems of these plants during the germination and early growth stages, leading to severe stand reduction across the field.

Biology and life cycle: The insect undergoes complete metamorphosis. Adults are nocturnal, often attracted to light, and feed on foliage. Females deposit eggs in the soil. The larvae, which are the most destructive stage, spend their life in the root zone. Depending on environmental conditions, the development cycle can span several months, during which larvae increase in size and feeding rate, causing escalating damage to the host plant's underground structures.
