Systematic position. The pest Listroderes subcinctus belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. It is recognized as a significant pest in various agricultural regions, known for its ability to adapt to diverse climatic conditions and host plants.

Crops attacked. This weevil primarily targets a wide range of vegetables, including members of the Solanaceae and Brassicaceae families. Key economic crops affected include potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, and various cruciferous greens, which are particularly susceptible during early growth stages.

Biology and life cycle. The species undergoes a complete metamorphosis involving egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Larvae typically reside in the soil or at the base of the plant, causing damage to the root system. Adults are primarily nocturnal, hiding during the day to avoid desiccation and natural predators, while emerging at night to feed on foliage.

Nature of damage and economic importance. Damage caused by larvae involves the destruction of root tissue, which weakens the plant and leads to stunted growth or wilting. Adult feeding results in notched leaves and, in severe cases, defoliation. The economic impact is substantial, as quality degradation of root crops and reduced yield of leafy vegetables can lead to significant market losses.
