They are generally characterized by a robust body shape and a nocturnal lifestyle, often remaining hidden during the day under mulch or within the top layer of the soil.
The host range of Maladera is remarkably broad, encompassing a wide variety of agricultural, ornamental, and forestry crops. Adult beetles are known to feed on the foliage of trees and shrubs, causing skeletonization or irregular holes in leaves.
