Mecocorynus loripes is a significant insect pest belonging to the Curculionidae family. Known primarily as an African cocoa weevil, this beetle specializes in attacking woody plants, specifically causing severe economic distress to cocoa (Theobroma cacao) plantations in tropical Africa.

The host range is centered on cocoa trees, where both the adult beetles and their larvae disrupt the physiological functions of the tree. The infestation usually targets the stems and branches, which are vital for the transport of nutrients, thus causing systemic damage to the entire plant structure.
