Description
Taxonomic position. The species Mesoptyelus impictifrons belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Aphrophoridae. These insects are commonly known as spittlebugs due to the distinctive frothy mass produced by their nymphs during the feeding process on host plants.
Host crops. This pest is a generalist feeder that affects a wide variety of plants. It is frequently observed on agricultural crops such as alfalfa, cereals, and various ornamental species. By feeding on xylem sap, the insect can compromise the vascular system of the plant, leading to significant growth disturbances in nurseries and crop fields.
