Systematic position. The angular-winged katydid (Microcentrum triangulatum) is a member of the order Orthoptera and the family Tettigoniidae (bush crickets). These insects are renowned for their cryptic coloration and morphology, which allows them to blend in perfectly with foliage, making them difficult to detect until significant damage has already occurred.

Host plants. The primary hosts for this species include citrus trees such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruit. In addition to commercial citrus, this pest is commonly found on a wide variety of ornamental shrubs, tropical plants, and occasional deciduous trees, focusing its feeding activity on young, succulent leaves and tender stems.

Biology and lifecycle. The life cycle consists of egg, nymph, and adult stages. Females lay their eggs in rows along the edges of leaves, securing them firmly in a flattened manner. Nymphs emerge and undergo several molts, progressively resembling the adult form. The reproductive cycles are synchronized with the growth seasons of the host plants to ensure adequate food supply for the emerging nymphs.

Nature of damage and pest importance. Both adults and nymphs feed on foliage, resulting in characteristic semi-circular notches along the leaf margins. Severe infestations lead to defoliation, which reduces the plant's photosynthetic capacity and can cause stunted growth or reduced fruit set. Furthermore, egg-laying sites on leaves can serve as entry points for pathogens and fungal diseases.

Control measures. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is essential for controlling Microcentrum triangulatum. Key strategies include:
