Description
The yellow-horned beetle (Myoplatypus flavicornis) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae, specifically the subfamily Scolytinae. As a wood-boring beetle, it represents a significant challenge in forest pathology and arboriculture, primarily affecting the structural integrity of host trees.
This pest targets a range of deciduous tree species. It is particularly attracted to trees that are already stressed due to environmental factors, such as prolonged drought, poor soil conditions, or previous mechanical damage, which makes them more susceptible to infestation.
The life cycle begins with the adult beetle boring into the inner bark and sapwood. The female excavates galleries where she lays eggs. Upon hatching, the larvae continue to tunnel through the wood.
