This pest is primarily associated with damage to soybean crops, citrus trees, and sunflowers. Both adult beetles and their larvae contribute to plant stress; adults feed on the foliage, causing distinctive notches on leaf margins, whereas the soil-dwelling larvae target the root system, which is often the most destructive aspect of their lifecycle.

The biology and development of Naupactus mimicus follow a complete metamorphosis cycle. Adults lay eggs in clusters, often near the soil surface or on vegetation. Once the larvae hatch, they burrow into the soil to feed on root tissues. The developmental duration varies based on environmental moisture and temperature, allowing the population to build up effectively within the root zone.
