Harper scale (Neopinnaspis harperi) is a specialized insect pest classified within the family Diaspididae, order Hemiptera. This scale insect is recognized for its ability to infest various ornamental plants, often causing significant aesthetic and physiological damage to nursery stock and greenhouse vegetation.
The host range of Neopinnaspis harperi primarily includes woody shrubs and tropical ornamental species. Due to their cryptic nature and the protective armor they produce, these pests can go unnoticed until heavy infestations occur, making them a challenging concern for horticultural management.
