Nysius turneri thrives in warm, dry environments and is often found in fields that have been left fallow or near areas with abundant weed coverage, which serves as a primary reservoir before colonizing crops.

The host range of this pest is diverse, encompassing various economically important crops. It is particularly known to feed on plants within the Asteraceae and Brassicaceae families. Agricultural damage is often observed on sunflowers, sugar beets, and various vegetable crops, where the insects aggregate on leaves and stems to pierce plant tissues and suck out the sap.

As temperatures rise in spring, the adults emerge to feed and begin the reproductive cycle, with multiple generations possible during a single growing season depending on the climate.
