The larvae of this beetle primarily feed on the roots of pasture grasses, cereal crops, and various vegetable species. This root feeding causes severe stress to the host plants, often resulting in significant yield losses and the development of dead patches within pastures, while adult beetles may feed on the foliage of nearby shrubs and trees.

The biological cycle of this insect typically spans one year, depending on local environmental conditions. Eggs are laid in the soil, followed by several larval instars that inhabit the root zone.
