The large milkweed bug (Oncopeltus fasciatus) is a member of the order Hemiptera and the family Lygaeidae. Recognizable by its distinctive orange and black pattern, this insect is well-studied in entomology due to its specialized diet and the chemical defenses it sequesters from its host plants.

While their primary host is the milkweed plant, these bugs are known to feed on other plants when populations are high or preferred hosts are scarce.
