As a member of the rhinoceros beetle group, this species is specifically adapted to the tropical ecosystems of Madagascar, where it acts as a primary herbivorous pest.

Host plants and damage
The beetle primarily targets various palm species. The adults are the damaging stage, using their hardened head structures to bore into the crowns of young palm trees. By feeding on the meristematic tissue and sap, they severely disrupt the structural integrity of the plant, often leading to stunted growth or total crown collapse.
