It is important to clarify that this organism is not a plant pest; it is a major internal parasite of cattle and other ruminants, responsible for the disease known as ostertagiasis, which affects the digestive system rather than crops.

The life cycle of this parasite consists of free-living stages on pasture and parasitic stages within the host. Eggs excreted in manure hatch into L1 larvae, which develop into the infective L3 stage in the environment.
