The gold-dusted weevil (Otiorhynchus chrysocomus) is a member of the Curculionidae family, belonging to the order Coleoptera. This species is recognized as a significant pest in both agricultural settings and ornamental gardens due to the destructive nature of its larvae, which feed underground, and adults, which attack the foliage.
Adult insects are distinguished by their metallic, gold-dusted appearance caused by specialized scales covering their bodies. They possess a characteristic snout common to all weevils. Larvae are white, legless, and C-shaped, perfectly adapted for life in the soil where they consume plant roots. Their cryptic behavior often makes detection difficult until significant damage has already occurred.
The lifecycle consists of eggs laid in the soil near the host plant, followed by larval development, pupation, and the emergence of adults.
