The smooth vine weevil (Otiorhynchus laevigatus) is a significant agricultural and horticultural pest belonging to the Curculionidae family. As a member of the Coleoptera order, it is widely recognized for its ability to devastate both commercial crops and ornamental garden plants, often leading to substantial economic loss.

This weevil species has a broad host range, posing a threat to various plants including vines, berry bushes, fruit trees, and nursery stocks. The infestation is particularly damaging because the pest impacts the plants in two distinct ways, affecting both the foliage during the adult stage and the root systems during the larval stage.

The biological cycle of this insect involves complete metamorphosis. Adults emerge to feed on leaves, typically at night, while the larvae dwell underground.
